They are all very easily debunked as having no effect on anything...except that they all provide people with excuses such as "I lost that job because it wasn't meant to be" or "That car accident was just bad luck".
Jobs are lost because of poor job performance, poor business performance,
or a myriad of other possibilities such as business restructuring, feuding with
the boss, and calling in sick too much (when everyone knows that you weren't
really sick). Car accidents happen because someone wasn't driving
carefully enough or (rarely) due to mechanical failure. But, people don't like
to be accountable for their own behavior and they don't like to make difficult
decisions, so they look to somewhere/someone else. Superstitions can distract people from actually facing their own problems and working to resolve them, instead making decisions based on the stars or the suggestion of a mystical advisor.
None of that stuff works. Hard work and determination work. Time and time
again people prove that hard work and determination can overcome seemingly
insurmountable obstacles. Superstitions accomplish nothing -- they only
hold you back.
