Politics
Note: Before reading My Thoughts, please read My Disclaimer!
Plain and simple: Political parties exist to gain power so that they can implement their vision of how the country should function.
Of course, the way they gain power is by gathering votes.
Now, while few people are truly one-issue voters, there are some interesting and accurate observations that can be made:
- If you are in a labor union, you most likely vote for Democrats.
Labor unions believe that seniority (rather than job performance) determines pay increases.
That is, labor unions believe that you are entitled to more money because you continued to be employed for another year.
- If you work in Corporate America, especially in any sort of management position, you most likely vote for Republicans.
Managers in Corporate America recognize that if you pay for attendance (seniority) rather than job performance, people aren't motivated to do a good job.
As a result, the company suffers (and, inevitably, jobs are lost).
- If you are in academia (especially with tenure at the university level), you most likely vote for Democrats.
Academia is overrun with idealistic socialists who naturally align themselves with the Democratic Party, as socialism and the Democratic Party both believe very strongly in big government and the even distribution of wealth, regardless of personal achievement.
- If you are poor, you most likely vote for Democrats.
The Democratic Party claims that oppression from the wealthy class is to blame and promises tax relief for the poor and tax hikes on the wealthy, which is (of course) appealing to those that are poor.
- If you are wealthy, you most likely vote for Republicans.
The Republican Party recognizes that the wealthiest 1/5th of households pay more than 3/4 of the total income tax bill and that 40% of households in the U.S. (those with the lowest household income) together pay no income taxes at all.
They resent this ridiculously disproportionate distribution of the tax burden and the Democratic Party's desire to make it even more uneven.
- If you are ethnically in the minority, you most likely vote for Democrats.
This is not a racist statement, but rather an undeniable statistical reality.
The Democratic Party would have ethnic minorities believe that they are an oppressed people, and that they deserve special entitlements and enforced favoritism from the government -- and that they cannot possibly succeed without these special privileges.
- If you believe strongly about a social issue in which your position is the minority (such as atheism, pro-abortion, same-sex marriage, legalization of recreational drugs, etc.), then you most likely vote for Democrats.
The Democratic Party distances itself from the "majority rules" aspects of a representative democracy and instead prides itself in winning victories for the minority over the decisions of the "oppressive" majority.
- If you are a professional athlete or entertainer, you most likely vote for Democrats.
Professions that reward people proportionally for quantity of (relevant) education and hard work generally vote for Republicans.
Professions where all seem to be "gifted", but only a few "hit the big time" (athletes, actors, musicians) generally vote for Democrats.
It is a distribution of wealth issue:
Many of those that "make it big" feel guilty about those that are equally talented but didn't make it.
And, those that didn't make it question why those people succeeded and they want their "fair" share.
- And, if you fall into none of these categories, you most likely vote for Republicans.
So, the Democratic Party, to gain power, aims to appeal to each of their core groups.
They fight for labor unions' power over corporations, anti-capitalism teaching in our schools, entitlements for the poor and minority ethnic groups, and activist judges rewriting the laws made by elected officials.
And, they cuddle up with Hollywood types to push their agenda into the mainstream.
Especially key, the Democratic Party knows that nearly everyone who pays little or no income taxes and/or receives government entitlements will vote for the Democratic Party that made that happen.
So, they push for "middle class tax relief" to increase the number of those that will pay no income taxes by shoving more of the tax burden on those that wouldn't have voted for them anyway.
And, they push for more government-provided benefits -- raising taxes on the "wealthy" to pay for the new, permanent programs.
Please consider the Democratic Party's obvious, orchestrated manipulation of our society when casting your vote at the ballot box.
And, consider carefully the consequences of doing otherwise: the society that you save may be your own...
