Cell Phones

Why is it so important that we can be reachable every minute of the day? Are we just afraid to be alone?!

I understand why people might find a cell phone useful for their job and in an emergency, but I think we're carrying it a bit too far (pun intended). I frequently see people eating at a restaurant with someone, but instead of talking with them, they spend most of the meal on the cell phone.

I've heard cell phones ring in theaters and in church. I've seen many people at concerts and sporting events yelling into their phones during the middle of the event. Why did they even show up, if they'd rather be on the phone with someone?

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, why does it now seem that people must be on the cell phone while driving? I think we've actually reached a point where the majority of drivers are on the phone. As if there aren't enough distractions while driving: radio, passengers, reckless drivers, etc.

When driving a car, you are almost always driving fast enough to kill someone in a collision. It only takes a split-second to make a critical mistake that leads to a deadly crash. If you must talk with someone NOW, then please pull over into a parking lot and make your call safely. If you are just socializing, then please do it without jeopardizing my safety!

And, if you call me while your are driving, I hope you'll understand why I will cut the call short. As much as I want to talk with you, I do not want to contribute to an unsafe situation.

Honestly: Do you really think you are just as safe of a driver when you are on the phone?!
