Here's a place for me to share my opinions...or stand on a soap box...or dispense unsolicited advice...or whatever.
Consider this to be my organized/categorized blog. Where should I start?
- Well, first with a realization: I don't know everything. I will always have much more to learn.
- I don't expect everyone to agree with what I think.
After all, freedom of speech, religion, lifestyle, etc. are probably the most important liberties we have.
I don't expect everyone to share my opinions and I count among my friends many of those who don't.
- I respect others' opinions and I hope that my opinions may cause people to reflect upon their own principles as others have broadened my views.
Why should you care what I think? You shouldn't!
But, so much air time and respect is given to celebrities such as actors, athletes, and musicians, that maybe someone else should be heard.
While I greatly admire the proficiency of these individuals in their chosen profession, they are often almost completely one-dimensional and very poorly educated/experienced in topics that are relevant to the rest of us, such as: working every day at a desk job or physical labor for a modest wage for the vast majority of our lives.
They are less qualified than almost all of us to come to any meaningful conclusions about how our society ought to function.
Stop listening to celebrities and start thinking for yourself!
Also, society is far too focused on being "politically correct".
Just because people (or a whole group of people) have an opinion, that doesn't mean I have to like it.
It is not impolite to disagree.
We don't have to agree on everything in order to be friends.
I try to live my life with integrity, even if I don't always succeed.
And, by "integrity", I don't just mean that I try to be honest.
Granted, that can be hard enough sometimes.
But, I try not to be a hypocrite: If I say "Drinking and driving is bad", then I'd better not do it myself.
If I despise the effects of the tobacco companies, I should not support them buy buying their (even non-tobacco) products.
As you can no doubt tell, there are a few themes in most of my opinions: tell the truth and, in a related notion, don't be a hypocrite (with religion, especially).
I'm very much in favor of having fun, despite my objections to certain "holidays" and certain other forms of entertainment.
This world has an incredible assortment of entertainment available.
I try to find entertainment in things that don't stand in opposition to my beliefs or intentionally offend others.
Open-minded reading is appreciated.
Feedback is welcome.
